Bearing without possession
Achieving without arrogance
Raising without domination
This is called the Mystic Virtue.”

“Tonic” breath reverses the method of breathing that we generally use in this blog.  For this exercise, we will be breathing in through the mouth and out through the nose.  The timing should be the same i.e., slow and mindful. The diaphragm expands  when you breathe in and contracts as you breathe out.  Try this method of breathing whenever you need extra energy or increased blood circulation.

Tonic breathing with the Butterfly:

  1. Sit as usual with your feet flat on the floor shoulder-width apart, hips tucked under so that your back is fully supported by the back of your chair.
  2. Turn your hands so they are back-to-back in front of your chest.  As you breathe in through your mouth, push your hands forward and away from you.
  3. When your arms are fully extended (don’t lock your elbows), sweep them out to each side and breathe out through your nose.  Repeat for a total of 9 to 12 times.

Reflexology point:

  • Click on the illustration above to enlarge the view.  Find the point for “heart/chest” on the upper left part of the foot.
  • Massage in a circle around this area and then press firmly for no less than a full minute.  You can repeat on the same foot or change feet and massage and press on the same point on your other foot.
Don’t forget to drink water at the end of your exercise session or any time you begin to feel thirsty.  A Word of Caution…If you have or have had problems with your kidneys, please consult your physician.
