~~~~“Those who are on tiptoes cannot stand
Those who straddle cannot walk
Those who flaunt themselves are not clear
Those who presume themselves are not distinguished
Those who praise themselves have no merit
Those who boast about themselves do not last.”
Tao Te Ching #24 (translation provided by www.Taoism.net)
Once again, this exercise stimulates and massages your internal organs.  The twisting motions and your efforts to move the ch’i  through your trunk result in improved organ health.  In addition, this exercise balances the right and left hemispheres of the brain while loosening your neck and shoulder muscles.
Brushing Tree Trunk:
  1. Extend your arms upward, reaching for the ceiling as you breathe slowly in through your nose.
  2. Breathe out and swing your right arm across your body and to the left, keeping your left arm lifted toward the ceiling.
  3. As you sweep your right arm across your body and downward, tilt your head upward and to the right.  In other words, your body is twisted to the left but your head is turned to the right.
  4. Return to the center with both arms lifted high and then reverse, sweeping your left arm across your body and downward as you breathe out.  At the same time, twist your head upward to the left.
  5. Continue to alternate sides for a total of 6-12 times.  Concentrate on directing your ch’i throughout your “column of energy”, your trunk and matching your inhalations and exhalations with your arm and head movements.
  • Look for the reflexology point labeled “Lymph Glands/Fallopian Tubes/Groin”.   Using your thumb, circle on that point for about 30 seconds.
  • Press firmly on this point – again with your thumb – for a full minute.
  • Change feet and repeat the circling and pressure.
Benefits – This point will improve the functioning of your fallopian tubes and the activites of the lymph glands, particularly in the groin area.
Don’t forget to drink water at the end of your exercise session or any time you begin to feel thirsty.  A Word of Caution…If you have or have had problems with your kidneys, please consult your physician.
